A Grande Prairie photographer will be presenting her work on the global stage.

Cassandra Jones has been named one of the Canadian finalists in the World Photographic Cup in the portrait division.

Jones runs Noelle Mirabella Photography where she captures her subject with an almost paint-like quality.

“When I’m shooting outside, I use a really long focal length,” Jones says. “So, I get a really shallow depth of feel and it gives this super painterly look. But all of it is captured in camera, and that is something a lot of people don’t realize about my work, everything you see me capture is totally real.”

She says the competition sees entries from around the world that are judged by every country that enters.

“The World Photographic Cup is the Olympics of photography,” she says. “It is where you enter for your country. Within Canada, within each category, they select three of the best natural portrait images for all of Canada to represent Canada in the path going forward.”

Additionally, Jones has been named Portrait Photographer of the Year by the Professional Photographers of Canada Alberta.

Jones says she was greatly honoured to receive the award in recognition of her work.

“They kind of choose the overall photographer of the year from the different portrait categories,” she says. “Because I won three of the four that I entered, that put me into the running to be Portrait Photographer of the Year.”

Jones previously won bronze in her first entry into the World Photographic Cup.
