Grande Prairie represented in 2025 Prestige Awards

A Grande Prairie event and local, have been nominated for the Sport Tourism Canada 2025 Prestige Awards.

The 2024 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships, which were held in Grande Prairie from May 6 to 11, was selected as a finalist for the STC Canadian Sport Event of the Year: Group B, which is for events that had a budget of less than a million dollars.

This tournament was unfortunately interrupted by ongoing wildfires, which led to the Bronze medal game being cancelled; However, the gold medal games were played and resulted in Ontario taking home gold in both Men’s and Women’s divisions.

Team Alberta did take home a silver on the women’s side.

The City of Grande Prairie’s Katie Biberdorf was also selected as a finalist for the STC Sport Tourism Industry Champion award.

The winners of each category will be announced at a brunch event in March, at Stampede Park in Calgary.
