Human Trafficking Awareness Day

Alberta government pushing back against human trafficking

Feb 22, 2025 | 10:03 AM

The Alberta government says it will recognize Human Trafficking Awareness Day by awarding $5.5 million to 19 organizations that fight human trafficking.

The provincial grants will go to help support groups that prevent human trafficking, protect at-risk people and empower survivors.

The grants focus on areas that include prevention, protection and empowerment for people at risk.

The funded projects will help increase public awareness of the signs and risk factors people face because of Human Trafficking.

Saturday, February 22, marks Human Trafficking Awareness Day across Canada.

This date was chosen as on the same date in 2007, the House of Commons unanimously made a declaration to condemn all forms of human trafficking and slavery.
