Friends, family and firefighters from across the country gathered to celebrate the life of a fallen firefighter on Friday afternoon.

Roughly 1,000 people gathered into Holy Family Parish for the memorial service for James Hargrave. The Walsh-area firefighter passed away on October 17 when the water truck he was driving crashed while battling the grassfires near Hilda and Schuler.

He was 34 years old.

Following the funeral, local firefighters lead a funeral procession through the city from Holy Family Parish to the Cypress Centre. Residents of Medicine Hat could be seen lining the street to pay their respects as the procession marched pass.
