Kings advance to face Fort St.John

Feb 23, 2018 | 8:14 AM

Win or go home.

That was the message for both the JDA Kings and the Fairview Flyers Thursday night as they played game 5 of their best of five series at the County Sportsplex.

The Kings opened the scoring just 13 seconds into the game when Tyrone Kipling banked a puck from behind the goal off of Fairview goaltender Dave Testawich and in to make it 1-0.

Fairview would respond just four minutes later when former Grande Prairie Storm Logan Mazerolle tied the contest with a high rising shot into the top corner.

The Flyers took their first lead of the game late in the 1st period when Tristyn Corliss made a fancy move to sweep it around Darian Sommerfeld and into the back of the net.

The Kings would respond quickly though in the middle stanza as Zach Bennett made no mistake on a partial breakaway to tie the game at two, and then just 7 minutes later the Kings would take the lead as Donald Gaudreault potted a rebound to lift the Kings to a 3-2 lead after two periods of play.

They would add to the lead early in the third period with a goal on the powerplay from Austin Hrehoruk, and take a three-goal advantage with a great tip by Gaudreault for his second goal of the night.

Fairview would get to within two on a 5 on 3 powerplay, but that was as close as they would come as the Kings would win the contest 6-3.

With the win, the Kings claim the series 3-2 and will move on to face the Fort St.John Huskies in the next round of the playoffs.

Game 1 of the best of seven series will go Saturday night in Fort St.John

The other semi-final series between the North Peace Navigators and the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks also begins tomorrow night.
