Wildfire hazard at high for Grande Prairie Forest Area

Update: A Fire Advisory has now been put in place for the GP Forest Area (effective 12 p.m. May 10). This means no new fire permits for heavy fuels will be issued until the area greens up or we receive a significant amount of precipitation. Active permits are not affected, but users are asked to check their permit requirements and ensure they comply. And small, safe cooking and warming (campfires) are still OK.
With dry and windy conditions in the forecast, the province has increased the wildfire hazard in the Grande Prairie area to high.
In a release from Kelly Burke, Wildfire Information Officer, people are asked to be cautious when burning or using off-highway vehicles. They are also asking for people riding their recreational vehicles to not go in areas with lots of grass and dry vegetation. Riders should also carry a bucket with them in case a wildfire does happen.
