UPDATE: June 22: Heat Warning ended for Grande Prairie and area

June 17th: Environment Canada has heat warnings in place across Northern Alberta.

That includes the Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Valleyview, Fairview, Peace River, High Prairie, and Manning areas.

The weather office says on its website that “a prolonged period with maximum daily temperatures reaching near 29C or above and minimum overnight temperatures near 14C or above is expected to begin Monday and continue through the week.”

The High Level, Rainbow Lake, Fort Vermilion, Peerless Lake, Gift Lake, and Cadotte Lake areas are also included, as are Fort McMurray and Fort Chipewyan.

Environment Canada is advising people to watch for signs of heat stroke, which can include “high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness.”

People are being advised to reschedule outdoor activities, drink lots of water, take breaks from the heat, and to not leave other people or pets in vehicles.
