County FCSS office offering summer camps

Jul 15, 2018 | 9:00 AM

The County of Grande Prairie’s Family and Community Support Services department has launched a brand new summer camp program.

The camps, which are for youth between the ages of 6 and 12, will be spread across the summer in several different communities throughout the County.

Child, Youth, Family and Community team lead Lisa Watson says those attending can expect a number of activities.

“Things like outdoor activities and arts and crafts.  We also provide a healthy snack in the morning and afternoon.  They are looking at activities that are directed towards social inclusion, as well as some recreational activities.  And we are providing that for some of our families and youth and children out in our rural areas.”

Watson says 13 kids attended the first camp in Dimsdale, with a second one scheduled for this Tuesday to Thursday in La Glace.

“Right now our registration is a little low in La Glace, so we are looking for participants in that age group to attend our La Glace camp.”

The camps run from 9am to 3pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and cost $30 per child.

Other camps slated for this summer include:
– July 31 to August 2 at Bezanson Memorial Hall
– August 7-9 at Wellington Resource Centre in Clairmont
– August 14-16 at Rio Grande Community Hall
– August 21-23 at Teepee Creek School.

To register your child, you can call the FCSS office at 780-532-9727.
