The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital should be open for patients in a couple years.

Dawn Miller with the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation says staff will be able to get in the building sometime in 2019.

“Our understanding is in 2020 we will see patients and staff will get in late 2019, The staff recruiting has been doing a good job looking to get additional staff for the facility, it is a massive building so that will be an ongoing project for them and they will continue to be recruiting.

She adds, “the last time I was there, drywall was going up. I have a tour actually on August 10th so I am going to have a bit of an update then, I haven’t seen what has been going on since but they are making tremendous headway. I understand our offices are just about done, they are ready for paint, so they are definitely moving along.”

The original opening date for the facility was in 2016, construction began in 2011.

Miller says when it comes to fundraising, the foundation is halfway to their goal of 20 million and have asked the MD of Greenview for 800,000. The MD has provided 200 thousand towards the Key to Care Capital Campaign so far.
