VOD services pick up movie featuring Grande Prairie-raised actor

A movie with a Grande Prairie-raised actor in the cast has been picked up by a couple of video on demand services.
 
Mermaid’s Song was originally called Charlotte’s Song.
 
Swan City product Casey Strandquist plays Sophia.
 
“It’s actually pretty huge. It actually came as a huge surprise. We actually filmed the movie four years ago, which is kind of an insight into how the business really works, how long it takes to get distribution. It’s a passion project for a lot of people, so we’re all really excited to finally see it come out.”  
 
This was her first role after completing film school in Vancouver.
 
“I moved out here back in 2012 and did a year of film school out here. One of my instructors was working on this project and he brought me into the room. When they audition actors, they have someone sitting and reading the lines with the actors, so I was just there as a reader and girl after girl kept coming through and they still weren’t finding anyone quite the right age, height, all those fun things.”
 
Mermaid’s Song is available on Google Play and Amazon Prime. It is a horror movie take of the Hans Christian Andersen story The Little Mermaid.
 
Strandquist’s cast-mates in Mermaid’s Song included Welsh actor Iwan Rheon, who has also appeared in a number of episodes of Game Of Thrones.
