What happens next following dissolution vote in Grande Cache

Sep 26, 2018 | 9:55 AM

The Reeve of the Municipal District of Greenview says there is a lot of work to do following the Grande Cache vote in favour of dissolution.  Out of 1,097 ballots, 1,065 voted to dissolve the town into the M.D. of Greenview.

Dale Gervais says an official document has to be prepared first.

“To go to cabinet and the cabinet will most likely have an order in cabinet to transfer the assets and liabilities in the Town of Grande Cache to the M.D. of Grande Cache.”

He says when it comes to the day to day operations, not much will change for residents.

“We would maintain the same level of service, we are not going to cut any services. The tax structure for residents and businesses in Grande Cache, there’s going to be a lot of work there determining what’s going to happen there and how we are going to go about it.”

He expects it to become official in 2019, the same year the town would have celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Meanwhile, Town Council in Grande Cache has picked two people to join what is being termed an interim government with MD of Greenview Council.

Duane Didow and Tyler Olsen were picked by secret ballot among other council members. The vote was held September 17 to prepare for the possibility of residents voting for dissolution.

The interim government will stay in place until the 2021 election. A ward boundary review will also be done.
