Vipers & Jr.Canucks renew hostilities in Dawson Creek

Dec 12, 2018 | 7:11 AM

The busy North West Junior Hockey League week begins Wednesday night with two clubs looking to get back in the win column.

The Dawson Creek Jr.Canucks (14-9-0) will host the Sundown Oilfield Services Sexsmith Vipers (7-10-2) with both clubs on losing skids.

The Jr.Canucks are coming off of a 4-2 loss Sunday to the Fort St.John Huskies.

Dawson Creek has lost 3 straight and their last win came against the Vipers two weeks ago in Sexsmith.

The Vipers have been off since last Wednesday and Head Coach Rob Lavalley is hopeful the time away from the rink will help his club.

“I think everyone got a rest over the weekend. Simply, our scorers have to score. Our checkers need to check, and our goalies need to stop the puck. I think the guys are planning on doing the little things correctly and go back to the things that made us successful at the beginning.”

For Sexsmith, their stretch of losses has dated back all the way to early November.

The Vipers have not won a game since November 3rd when they earned a 3-2 win in Fairview.

Lavalley knows for his club to snap their 8-game slide they will need a quick start.

“Hopefully we get out to a quick start. We haven’t had a quick start in the last little while. We have kind of waited around and played catch up hockey and that hasn’t helped us at all. If we can get out to a quick start and get the first couple of goals, we can get settled playing our game. We know it’s going to be a battle against them.”

Sexsmith will also be looking to get a good start to the week as the club plays three games in four days to close out the 2018 portion of their schedule.

Puck drop between the Vipers and Jr.Canucks is at 8:00 p.m.
