Convoy from Peace River linking up with convoy to Ottawa

Jan 24, 2019 | 4:30 AM

A woman from Peace River is organizing a convoy that’ll roll from Peace River to Red Deer.

Organizer Cathy Monteath says she’s still in the process of organizing where the trucks will meet up in February.

“I’m trying to get everyone together that wants to go down to Red Deer so that we can start a sort of pre-convoy in representation of Alberta and Canada,” says Monteath. “We’ll try to leave a day earlier and head down due to the fact that there’s some people from way up in High Level, Fort St. John, Fort Nelson, so on and so forth. It’s a long travel for them to get to Red Deer.”

Monteath notes planning of the convoy is going well so far and explains that the Yellow Vests consist of people who aren’t happy with the situation they’re in.

“We stand for everything that Canadians believe in, it’s not racism, it’s not strictly Bill C-69, it’s about us wanting change. Our government has done nothing to lead us properly in the last many years,” says Monteath.

The convoy is scheduled to link up with the main Yellow Vest convoy in Red Deer on February 14, and its next stop will be Regina.

“February 13th, we’re leaving Peace River. Then, I’m hoping to meet up with people from Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Fort St. John, Fort Nelson and so on and so forth. In Valleyview, I’ll have a rally point there which is probably going to be the information centre, I’m not sure yet. From there, we’ll go down to Whitecourt, Fox Creek, or over to Slave Lake. It all depends how quickly people get back to me so I can make my final decision as to where we’re going.”

She’s encouraging anyone interested in taking part in the convoy to check out the Facebook page for updates and reach out to her and other organizers for further information. Monteath adds plans are still being worked on and might change before the trucks roll out.
