Chimney fire near Rio Grande Saturday evening

Feb 17, 2019 | 11:08 AM

A chimney fire had Beaverlodge, Hythe and Wembley fire departments responding to a structure near Township Road 710 and Range Road 123 in the Rio Grande area Saturday night.

At around 9:40 p.m., crews found a fire coming out of the chimney upon arrival. The fire was quickly extinguished and was contained to the chimney.

No one was injured as a result of the fire.

“Make sure a certified chimney sweep inspects your wood burning fire place chimney annually, and sweeps and repairs it whenever needed,” said Regional Fire Service Deputy Chief Bart Johnson in a release. “Your sweep may have other maintenance recommendations depending on how you use your fireplace or stove.”
