Caroline Elizabeth Jones

November 22, 1946 – October 3, 2021

 

Leaving us with broken hearts, our beloved wife and mother Caroline Jones went to be with her Heavenly Father on October 3, 2021 at the age of 74 in Grande Prairie.

Caroline was born to Bessie and Eyvind Hellquist on November 22, 1946 in Provost, Alberta- the first arrival to their family, and the apple of her daddy’s eye! She was followed by 5 sisters and 2 brothers.   Named after her paternal grandmother, she was often called “Karolina“ (say that with a Swedish accent!) by her father. They lived in Metiskow, Alberta for the first five years of her life, and from there moved to Amisk, Alberta, where she attended the Amisk school for grades 1 through 8, and then was bussed to Hughenden where she completed grade 9.

The children were taught by word and example to love and follow God, and together they faithfully attended the Amisk Pentecostal Assembly Church. Caroline had a part-time job after school assisting the janitor at the Amisk school. In 1961, the family relocated to Worsley, Alberta. There Caroline completed her formal education receiving honors throughout her grades 10 and 11. As the oldest of 8 children, Caroline was always a big help to her mother. She learned well to take care of her younger siblings and how to make a house a home. Whatever she did, she did to the best of her ability. In her later years, she lovingly cared for her widowed mother- visiting her daily in the care home and tending to her every need. She was an encourager and sensitive, seeing the needs of others and doing what she could to help.

In 1963, Caroline moved to Grande Prairie and got her first big job working for Avco Finance. There she met her life long partner Lyle Jones, whom she married in 1965. Caroline continued to work for Avco until their first born, Carrie, arrived. For the next few years, as Kevin and Charla joined the family, she took on the role of stay at home Mom. She returned to paid work once her children were finished elementary school, in the bookkeeping and accounting field. She worked for several companies until she found her “work family“ at Rentco Equipment where she worked for 30+ years- enjoying the work, but mostly the support of colleagues and friends. She never could be persuaded to retire and continued to work as long as she could, into the summer of 2021.

Caroline was a very kind, compassionate, thoughtful and unselfish wife an mother. She devoted herself and her love completely to her husband and family and put everyone else`s needs above her own. She always made time to hear their concerns and frustrations no matter what the time of day it was, and made many efforts to create happy moments together with her family. She was slow to anger and demonstrated much patience. She was truly an exceptional wife and mother, a gentle, loving grandmother and great grandmother, a dear sister, treasured daughter and a good friend to many.

Caroline`s deep faith was a big part of her life, and this strong faith carried her through the best of times and the worst of times. Her love of her Heavenly Father and her commitment to Him was evident to all who knew her. Although she faced adversity, her faith kept her anchored. She had a gift for words. Her poetry, words of wisdom, and the portions she would share from the Word- whether through her scrapbooking, Instagram account, or through the telephone line- were a great encouragement to those in her life. From its inception, Caroline attended Christ Community Church and served for many years on the Church board.

Left to mourn her passing are her husband Lyle, daughters Carrie, Charla (Patrick) Hall and son Kevin (Jackie), grandchildren Matthew (Paulina) Borowka, Nicholas and Michalea Jones, Vaughn and Auden Hall, great-grandchildren Nina and Franio Borowka, siblings Hope (Glen) Hoover, Rebecca (Dale) Watson, Darrell (Shirley) Hellquist, Bes (Ken) Gagnon, Charity (Tony) Maltais, Paul (Julie) Hellquist, plus numerous nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and great nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Bessie and Eyvind Hellquist, and her sister Joy Fraser and niece Tracy Hoover.

She was truly loved by us all. We look forward to the day when we will see and hug her again in Heaven.
