Sheila Toews was born to Paul and Eileen Klassen on November 1, 1971 in Grande Prairie Alberta. She left us on April 21, 2024 after being diagnosed with cancer in late 2022. She was 52 years old.
Mom spoke fondly of her childhood in Crooked Creek, AB. She loved her dad’s farm and the work it gave her- choring cattle and fieldwork.
As a youth Mom committed her life to God. She was baptized at the Rosedale Mennonite church in Crooked Creek and cherished her faith all her life.
Mom fell in love with Pete Toews, they married on January 20, 1991, and they held each other close for just over 33 years. As we three children came into their lives, Mom and Dad built their home on an acreage and created the little farm it is now. Four eventful years were spent in El Salvador as a family volunteering, making friends, and trying the local recipes.
Mom loved her garden and excelled in growing roses that were not meant for the northern Alberta climate.
Mom was Dad’s constant companion with Star Fabrication, enjoying the challenge of bookkeeping. The business took them to Taloyoak, Nunavut, where she cultivated even more friends among the Inuit.
Mom loved her little family knowing her children’s passion for the outdoors and would give us Christmas money for Trapper Gord’s.
As Mom began to need more care, she deeply appreciated her caregivers. The nurses at the hospital and Points West became family to Mom and Dad.
Her survivors include her husband Pete, children Joshua, Monty and Jessi, Peggy and Mike Webb, three grandchildren, parents Paul and Eileen Klassen, sisters, brothers, and in-laws.
Funeral services were held at Crooked Creek, AB on April 27, 2024. Interment at the Rosedale Cemetary, Crooked Creek, AB.
