Grande Prairie Pow Wow starts today at Boots and Moccains
The first-ever Boots & Moccasins weekend is underway at Evergreen Park.
The second annual Grande Prairie Pow Wow will take place at the ENTREC Centre today and tomorrow. The grand entries happen at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Pow Wow Committee Chair Walter White is expecting what he calls “an amazing turnout.”
“Probably a few hundred dancers, I’m hoping. A number of drums from all over. We’ve had people say that they’re coming from all over Canada. Some people from Quebec phoned to say they’re coming to the Pow Wow.”
He adds the flooding around Slave Lake may boost attendance here.
“We had another Pow Wow nearby, Driftpile’s competition Pow Wow, that had to postpone due to flooding, so I believe that we are going to get a lot of dancers and singers this weekend, making an even larger display.”
The Western Chuckwagon Association is running at Gordon Badger Stadium through tomorrow. Racing starts at 5 p.m. both days.
