Alberta Court of Appeal increases Calgary man’s sentence

Oct 11, 2018 | 1:16 PM

The Alberta Court of Appeal has increased the sentence of a Calgary man who strangled his wife and sealed her body in cement in his basement.

Allan Shyback was sentenced last fall to seven years in prison for manslaughter and indignity to a body in the 2012 death of Lisa Mitchell.

The appeal court has decided to boost the punishment to 10 years, saying the original sentence did not fit the — quote — “gravity” of the crime.

Shyback’s trial was told that the accused strangled Mitchell during an argument, then tried to cover up his crime by placing her remains in a plastic container and cementing it into a basement wall.
