Deputy PM Chrystia Freeland to visit Grande Prairie, Peace River this week

Jan 7, 2020 | 11:32 AM

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland is set to visit Peace River and Grande Prairie this week to speak with local officials.

Freeland is to visit Peace River on Wednesday, January 8, then Grande Prairie on Thursday, January 9.

The City says in a statement, “The City of Grande Prairie is pleased to welcome the Deputy Prime Minister to the City later this week. Mayor Given has accepted her invitation to meet to discuss the opportunities within our region as well as the challenges we currently face.”

Freeland is currently touring through Alberta, following the October federal election in which the Liberals failed to win a seat in the province.

Freeland started her tour in Edmonton on Monday, where she met with Iveson.

She met with Premier Jason Kenney today in Calgary.

Kenney last met with Freeland in November when he asked the federal government for a firm guarantee on the completion of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion and to repeal what he sees as unfavourable energy bills.
