Rotary Club of Grande Prairie Dream Home Lottery raises additional $90,800 for Peace Region Food Banks

Apr 20, 2020 | 10:22 AM

In their third week of ticket sales, the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie Dream Home Lottery raised an additional $90,800 between April 13-20 for Food Banks in the Peace Region, bringing their total amount raised to $169,650.

At the end of March, the dream home lottery announced that 50 per cent of ticket sales in April would be donated to Food Banks in the Peace Region, in order to help keep shelves stocked during COVID-19 as many Food Banks have had to deal with an increased demand.

The following cheques were sent out to the following Food Banks on April 20:

  • Grande Prairie $71,545
  • Sexsmith $4,580
  • Beaverlodge $3,670
  • Fairview $3,670
  • Hythe $2,750
  • Wembley $2,750
  • Peace River $1,835

New Horizon Co-op also helped out this week. During the third Thursday of each month the company donates 3 per cent of its food sales to local Food Banks in the Peace Region. This saw them raise $5400 for Food Banks in Grande Prairie, Falher, Valleyview, Rycroft, La Glace, Grande Cache, Beaverlodge and Hythe.

Tickets remain on-sale until April 22, and the final round of cheques distributed will be announced on April 23.

“We have people buying Dream Home tickets for a second or third time. People who have not bought this year or for a couple years are buying,” said Raffle Manager Kevin Hilgers. “They really want to support the COVID-19 Rapid Relief Fund. It’s given them an opportunity to support the community and dream a little.”

Tickets for the Dream Home can be found on their website. If you cannot buy a ticket for the lottery, you can donate separately to the Food Bank.
