ASIRT investigating after man shot, killed by police in confrontation
EDMONTON – Alberta’s police watchdog says it is investigating the shooting death of a 48-year-old man during a confrontation with Edmonton police.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team says police were called on Friday after a man was seen with a gun in the alley behind a motel, and then in the backyard of a nearby home in the city’s east end.
ASIRT says police and a tactical unit surrounded the home within 10 minutes and found a man at the back.
The agency says a confrontation occurred and two officers discharged their service weapons, striking the man and fatally wounding him.
