County asks drivers to use caution on slick roads

Nov 8, 2019 | 10:24 AM

The County of Grande Prairie is asking drivers to exercise caution while on the roads.

The inclement weather, including a winter storm that has already brought freezing rain, has led to poor road conditions, especially on rural and gravel roads, which have turned muddy, icy, and slippery.

The condition of paved roads may also deteriorate as the temperature drops, snow begins to fall, and ice forms on the road. A winter storm is expected to bring 30 to 40 centimetres of snow ot the area over the weekend over the weekend.

The County says crews will be working throughout the weekend, plowing, salting, and ice blading roads, as well as preparing for, and responding to, the winter storm.

The County has also introduced new temporary parking restrictions in specific areas during the event of heavy snowfall, which allows crews to clear snow more efficiently.
Residents are asked to pay attention to signage, and make sure they aren’t parking in restricted areas.
