Daylight Savings Time begins tonight – turn clocks ahead before bed

Mar 7, 2020 | 5:00 AM

Don’t forget to change your clocks and spring forward this Sunday.

Sunday, March 8 marks the beginning of Daylight Savings. As per usual at this time in March, most residents in Canada will turn their clocks forward at 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.

The B.C. Peace Region and most of Saskatchewan are some of the only exceptions, as they stay on Standard time throughout the entire year. For Yukon, this will be the last time they will be changing their clocks, as they have elected to do away with Daylight Savings following strong public support for staying on the same time year-round.

The Province of Alberta held similar public engagement recently, which received strong support for abolishing seasonal time changes.

“Of the 141,000 Albertans who responded, 91 per cent told us they would prefer to stay on summer hours year-round, rather than continue to change their clocks twice a year,” said Minister of Service Alberta Nate Glubish, in a release.

Glubish adds there is no final decision about that yet, as they continue to work with several key stakeholders as to how to move forward.

“We are also actively reaching out to our partners in Eastern Canada to discuss the option of moving together in unison. We will update Albertans when decisions are made.”
