Preliminary hearings set in Peace River murder case, Grande Prairie gun selling arrest

Jun 9, 2020 | 5:30 AM

Alberta Justice says a preliminary hearing date has been set in a Peace River murder case.

The hearing for Mathew Ian Blachford is set for March 17, 2021.

He was arrested January 30 of this year in connection with the death in October of last year of 37-year-old Victorine Donovan, also known as Jennifer Donovan.

Peace River RCMP said at the time that on October 8, 2019, just before 2 a.m., Mounties and EMS were called out to a report of an injured person in the area of 77 Avenue between 98 and 99 Streets in Peace River.

An autopsy later determined it was Donovan and that she had been murdered.

October hearing in gun-selling arrest

Alberta Justice says a preliminary hearing has been set for a woman charged with illegally selling guns.

The hearing for Misty Kohuch is set for October 21 in Grande Prairie court.

She was arrested October 1 last year at a traffic stop and charged with eight counts, trafficking a firearm, possession of a firearm for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking among them.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team said at the time that a firearm purchased that same morning, along with cocaine and fentanyl, were all seized.

ALERT says its investigation showed weapons were being purchased legally, but then being sold illegally to what it describes as “the criminal market.”
