Grande Prairie RCMP arrest male following multiple incidents

Mar 9, 2022 | 5:12 PM

The Grande Prairie RCMP has arrested a male suspect who they allege was involved in multiple incidents over the course of the last few months.

According to police, back on January 17, they received a report of a vehicle on fire located in the ditch in the area of Range Road 60 and Township Road 700 in the County of Grande Prairie.

Officers had received reports of a male and female fleeing the scene of the fire.

As officers made their way to the vehicle on fire, they received a report of a stolen black 2009 Dodge Ram 3500.

The male fleeing the scene was believed to have stolen the truck and fled without the female counterpart.

Police arrived on scene of the vehicle on fire and located a female suspect believed to be one of the suspects, fleeing the fire. The female was arrested because of a warrant unrelated to the investigation and was subsequently arrested and released at the scene on an appearance notice.

On March 7, police located the male suspect of the stolen vehicle at a property at Range Road 91 and Township Road 712 near Wembley.

RCMP and the Police Dog Services attended the property and determined the male suspect was located inside a barn on the property.

Officers entered the barn and found the male suspect inside a large truck. Police say the male refused to leave and began attempting to drive through the closed barn doors. In the process of trying to escape the barn, the driver nearly hit officers inside the barn and did strike an RCMP vehicle parked outside of the barn doors.

The suspect continued to drive erratically, was able to exit the barn, and drive away towards Highway 43.

Police pursued the vehicle on Highway 43 heading towards Beaverlodge. Not far from the town, officers saw the truck slowing down. The male suspect exited the truck and fled on foot. He was arrested shortly after.

Further investigation found the truck the male had was the same 2009 Dodge Ram 3500 stolen on January 17.

No officers involved were injured.

Twenty-nine-year-old Jared Wayne Holland of Wembley faces the following charges:

  • Resist arrest
  • Mischief over $5000 x 5
  • Possession of property obtained by crime x 2
  • Motor vehicle theft x 2
  • Assaulting a Peace Officer x 6
  • Arson
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Flight from Peace Officer
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Failing to comply with release order x 17
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to order x 2

Following a judicial hearing, Holland was remanded into custody to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on March 23, 2022.

As this matter is now before the courts no further information can be provided.

This incident was not related to the trio of vehicles stolen back on March 7.
