Winter weather brings more theft of and from vehicles: Grande Prairie RCMP
Idling vehicles in colder weather season is upon us, which means more opportunities for theft of vehicles and from vehicles if not done with the right precautions.
Constable Lindsay McNab with the Grande Prairie detachment says leaving your keys in the car unattended while warming up is the number one way people’s vehicles are stolen.
“As inconvenient as it may be… you have to bundle up and just sit in there with your vehicle as it warms up because if you leave it running with the keys in it, doors locked or not… it’s a great opportunity for someone if they’re looking to take a vehicle.”
Constable McNab notes by parking in well-lit areas and not leaving valuables and keys inside serve as deterrents
