Red Flag Watch issued for Grande Prairie Forest Area

The wildfire danger rating in the Grande Prairie Forest Area is Very High, and a Red Flag Watch has been issued.

A Red Flag Watch means there is critical fire danger in the forecast.

Today’s (Thursday, May 9) fire index is forecasted to have a crossover, meaning the air temperature and relative humidity will be equal. Crossover is a direct indication of extreme burning conditions, and gusty winds means a fire could spread even quicker and be more difficult to get under control.

On Wednesday, a Fire Ban was put into effect for the GPFA as well as the City of Grande Prairie.
