Team Canada West won bronze by beating Team Canada East 5-2 on Sunday afternoon.

The United States won 7-4 over Sweden to win gold in the competition’s finale game.

La Crete continues to crush competition

In the Strike Group NWJHL over the weekend, La Crete kept on their winning ways with a league leading 24-2-2 record so far this season.

Two shutout games were played on Friday:

  • The Fort St. John Huskies travelled to Fairview and shutout the Flyers 8-0.
  • Sexsmith hosted Beaverlodge, where the Blades shutout the Vipers 4-0.

In the three Saturday games:

  • The County Wheat Kings hosted the Blades, and shut them out 4-0 at home.
  • The Flyers hosted the Dawson Creek Kodiaks and got shutout once again 8-0.
  • The La Crete Lumber Barons hosted the North Peace Navigators for game one of two, and won 9-2.

The three Sunday matinees were:

  • The Vipers bit back and won 6-3 over the Wheat Kings.
  • Huskies won 5-2 over the Kodiaks at home.
  • La Crete won again over the Navs 5-4 in their second matchup of the weekend.

The league resumes play Friday through Sunday before the Christmas break.

Athletics win both games

The North Peace Hockey League kicked off Thursday night; Grande Prairie won 6-5 in Dawson Creek, Spirt River won 5-2 in Fort St. John, and Falher stopped visiting High Prairie 6-1.

On Friday, the lone game was the Manning Comets winning 6-1 over the Valleyview Jets.

Saturday’s schedule had the Falher Pirates losing to the Jets 2-1, Fort St. John Flyers winning 8-7 over High Prairie, and the Grande Prairie Athletics won 5-4 at home over Manning.

The league resumes Thursday December 19, through Saturday December 21. Then the holiday break will continue until January 3, 2025.
